<p>Et udpluk af den russiske psykolog L. S. Vygotskys teoretiske værker er samlet i denne lille tekstsamling. I kapitlet <em>Tool and Symbol in Child Development</em> redegør Vygotsky for sprogets evne til at skabe struktur og løse problemer. Sproget er bundet til handling og adfærd. Selve sprogets kognitive og kommunikative funktioner danner grundlag for en ny form for aktivitet hos børn som adskiller dem fra dyrene.</p>
<p>I disse tekster finder man det teoretiske grundlag for konstruktivistiske læringsteori. Som Vygotsky selv udtrykker det: “<em>The complex human structure is the product of a developmental process deeply rooted in the links between individual and social history</em>.” (<em>ibid</em>. 30)</p>
